As a homeowner, you have invested in your home’s windows so now it’s time to take good care of them! The All-Weather team wants to equip you with cleaning tips for keeping your windows crystal clear year round. Check them out below!
How to Avoid Steaks from Cleaning
The best way to avoid streaks when cleaning your home’s windows is to use a squeegee. Look for one that has a smooth rubber edge. When using your squeegee it is important to begin on a part of the glass that is dry to avoid the streaking.
What Time of Day to Wash Windows
Believe it or not, washing your windows during the day can be a bad thing. Why? Washing windows while the sun is out causes them to dry faster than normal. This then makes your window more susceptible to streaking.
Expert Tip: If using a razor blade to remove anything like paint or adhesive from glass to make sure that the glass surface is wet before you try to scrape it. This will help prevent scratches in the glass. You can spray it with glass cleaner, or wipe down with a wet sponge, then use a new sharp razor blade scraper.
Don’t Forget about Contributing Factors
Are the insides of your windows constantly dirty? It may be time to change your heating and cooling system’s air filter. Furnace and AC filters are used to filter out dirt, dust, pollen, and pet dander. If it has not been changed in a few months, it could be full and therefore not doing its job of stopping those elements from entering your home. Another component that could lead to your windows appearing dirty is secondhand smoke. We recommend washing windows that have been affected by secondhand smoke with an ammonia-based solution.
Your Screens Are Important Too
A dirty window screen can make even the cleanest windows look dirty. At All-Weather recommend removing your screens and washing them once every year or two. The best way to clean screens is by taking a soft-bristled brush and scrubbing with hot water and dishwashing detergent.
