Best Place to Buy a Front Door in Kansas City

Shut the front door! Most door installation doesn’t include what?! There are a lot of places to buy a new front door in Kansas City. Many homeowners choose chain stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Menards. And if you’re just looking for a low price, they will be able to provide that. But it’s what they don’t provide that you should be more concerned about. When you use a big box store, you may get a bit of a price advantage, but make sure you ask them about the following things before you commit to the sale.

1. Do They Paint the Entry Door?

You may not realize it, but painting your door is not part of the deal with the big box stores. So after they install your door, it’s your job to paint or stain it…big hassle! At All-Weather, we can provide factory finishing in many popular colors. Or if you prefer a custom color, we can match your home’s exterior paint or trim color.

2. What about the Trim?

When you replace a door, many times, you also want to change the trim around your door. Or sometimes, the trim gets damaged during installation. Our installation includes new interior and exterior trim at no extra cost so it all looks great.

 3. Will The Door and Frame Be Insulated?

Doors and windows are the draftiest places in any home. That’s where most of your energy escapes. We are experts at installing doors and windows, so we know how to do it right. We spray foam insulation around your door and frame to provide an extra barrier against air and water. Ask if they take this extra step.

4. Will It Have an Adjustable Threshold?

Most people don’t even know the threshold (the wood strip on the ground under the door) can be adjusted. That’s because many of them are fixed in place and can’t be adjusted. When we install a threshold, it’s adjustable so it can be raised to give a snugger fit against the bottom of the door to reduce drafts and provide better energy savings. It’s one of the little things that make a big difference.

5. Will They Reinstall my Storm Door?

Storm doors must be removed during installation. Because today’s doors are much better insulated than older doors, most of our new doors do not require a storm door. But if you’d like one, we can reinstall your old storm door, help you choose a new one, or even add a retractable screen that you open only when you need it and it stays hidden from view when not in use.

6. Will They Haul Away My Old Entry Door?

If you want to keep your old door, this is no problem. But most homeowners don’t want to keep it. It’s too big to put in the everyday trash container. What the heck do you do with an old door? Load it in the car (assuming it’s big enough to hold it) and drive it to the recycling center? With some companies, that’s your problem to deal with. All-Weather hauls away your old door and recycles it for you.

7. What about the Doorbell?

Assuming they replace your door frame with a new one, will they include replacing your doorbell on the new frame? Sometimes, that’s just another job for you. We typically can replace your doorbell button on the new frame if it was attached to your previous door frame. We will even install a replacement if you provide one. If you want to add a new camera doorbell we can coordinate with an electrician to provide this service for you as well. Just another question to ask before you buy.

8. Will They Install a Peephole or Will That Void the Warranty?

Some people like the peephole a little lower than the standard height. We can install a peephole in your door at your eye level, even if you’re vertically challenged, and we don’t void the warranty as some other companies do.

9. What Kind of Warranty Do They Provide?

Speaking of warranties, some companies don’t provide any warranty. Others offer a one-year warranty. At All-Weather, we warranty our installation for five years! Our warranties always beat the competition because our doors are quality doors made to stand the test of time.

10. Can I See What It Will Look Like on my House before I Buy It?

Buying a door is a big decision because not only is it one of the first things people see when visiting your home, it’s an investment and it will be there for years to come. Wouldn’t it be great if you could “try on” your front door to see how it will look before you buy it? At All-Weather, we have software that can use pictures of the front of your house to show you what it will look like with your new door. At All-Weather, you can choose from entry doors by Andersen, and ThermaTru – both high-quality names we trust.
